Everlasting 2018// Bookish wrap up + pie charts and LOTS of fangirling!

Copy of Author interview Ivon (2)

HELLLOOOOO 2019!!!!

HOW ARE Y’ALL DOING?!?! WHO’S EXCITED FOR 2019 someone??? anyone???

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS POST!! WRAP-UPS ARE MY FAVOURITE POSTS TO READ AND WRITING THIS WAS SO FUN!! I HOPE YOU LOVE READING THIS AND HAVE HAD A FABULOUS NEW YEAR’S DAY!! WHY AM I SCREAMING IN CAPS????

I’ve decided to make a mini series called Everlasting 2018* where I wrap up 2018 because I have a LOT to talk about OKAy?! And I think it would be best for everyone’s sanity if there were multiple short pfft false advertising at it’s finest folks. This post is more than 2000 words. HAH YOUR POOR EYES. I REGRET NOTHING posts rather than one HUMONGOUS one.

Today, I’m taking part in an AMAZING link-up hosted by The Perpetual Page-Turner… the 9th Annual End Of Year Survey – 2018 edition!! I’m not doing all the questions because this post would be FAR TOO LONG otherwise. I’ve also kinda reworded the questions so they stay on one line!** totally didn’t spend 97127876 hours on that just for the aesthetic…no…of course not except for that one question where it didn’t work uhhhh

*Yes I know the name is complete CRINGE but my brain decided to go on holiday around the 377987th name SO.

Pages: 43,481

Average Rating: 4.3

PIE CHARTS!!

Pie charts are GREAT. they can make your head hurt at points but STILL. I love cherry pies best. Joking- maths pies are great! (Fun fact: I adore maths! I love how there’s one certain answer to things and no confusion when you understand how something works!) I’ve only got two because I kind of gave up on keeping a spreadsheet after a month?? I took all this data like now and I’m too tired to take any more but it’s so interesting!

Rating Graph.png Reads.png

Star Ratings: To be completely honest, this isn’t that surprising for me. I know I give out a LOT of high ratings but I think that may change this year because I’m starting to become a lot more critical when it comes to ratings! (book blogger mind!!)

Reads vs. Rereads: I really need to start rereading more! I love so many books and I feel like I’m not giving them the time and attention they deserve? I kinda feel like rereading a book is like cheating and I should be reading a new book? (I know that’s not true but still MY BRAIN)

BEST BOOKS I READ IN 2018

HAHAHAHAHAH?!?!?’#’#@: YOU EXPECTED ME TO CHOOSE?! NO. WAY. HAVE A WHOLE BUNCH: I just realised how many 5 stars I give out- and this is just me picking SOME from my 5 stars?! FUTURE KERYS: You gave out exactly 58 five stars this year so the fact that you managed to narrow it down to 16 fave books is AMAZING. LET’S HAVE SOME APPLAUSE PEOPLE.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time We Are the Ants It Only Happens in the Movies Eleanor & Park Caraval (Caraval, #1) The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1) Scythe (Arc of a Scythe, #1) They Both Die at the End All the Bright Places Are We All Lemmings and Snowflakes? Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) Enchantée Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) Heartstopper by Alice Oseman The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1)

LEAST FAVOURITE* BOOKS OF 2018

Just to make it clear, this is my opinion and my opinion only. You may have loved one (or all) of these books! I’ve mostly forgotten everything about these books and I think the only reason these are my least favourite is because they were too boring or similar to other books!

Inside Out (Insider, #1) Never Enough Time The Here and Now Fever Crumb (Fever Crumb, #1) Numbers (Numbers, #1) My Side of the Diamond

*Yes I am British. Yes I do spell it like that. yES I am going to ignore WordPress and its silLY rEd line.

DISAPPOINTING BOOKS

The Astonishing Color of After City of Ghosts (Cassidy Blake, #1)

The Astonishing Color of After: I was so excited for this book! There was a half Asian main character, great mental illness rep and honestly it just sounded so touching and emotional! I think I did cry at the end but I was a bit underwhelmed, I guess?? I think I set my expectations too high. It was beautifully written though and you should definitely check it out if you’re looking for mental health rep and a story of love and family!

City of Ghosts: I’ve heard so many good things about Victoria’s books and I thought I would love this because ghosts are v. v. cool. And it just sounded amazing, you know? Sadly, like before, it was underwhelming and I was dissapointed. However, I’m sill going to try This Savage Song because it’s cover*?! and the title?! *melts*

*Would you disown me if I said I don’t really read blurbs anymore???

image-58

BOOKS I PUSHED PEOPLE TO READ

Scythe (Arc of a Scythe, #1) Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1)

I pushed literally and figuratively one of my best friends to read Scythe and she loved it which made me so HAPPYYYY!!! (someone actually appreciates my recs!!) And now I have someone irl to fangirl with which is a great bonus!

I’ve also pushed a whole bunch of people to read Six of Crows and The Raven Boys but nobody’s listened though so…

BEST SERIES I STARTED IN 2018

Scythe (Arc of a Scythe, #1) The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1)

Scythe: Like I MENTIONED BEFORE THIS IS AN AMAZING SERIES AND YOU NEED TO READ ITTT *sobs*

The Raven Boys: This book has one of the best friendships and omg whaat I’d give to be with them and go on their adventures!

Six of Crows: AHHH this was so fluffy and dangerous and sweet and murderous!! My precious babies and their heists! I love this book so much… pls read it. it will break your heart but then we can cry together

image-58

BEST SEQUEL OF 2018

I read quite a few sequels this year and to be honest, most of them were not as good as the first book.

Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2)

Crooked Kingdom: I’m not even kidding but this will give you ALL THE FEELS. There’s so many ships that need to be shipped, so much planning and stealing and heists and ahhh it’s one of the BEST SEQUELS ON EARTH.

image-47

FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR

That has GOT TO BE Patrick Ness! I saw one of my friends reading one of his books so I decided to read it too and it was amazing! I’ve now read almost all of his books and he’s definitely one of my favorite authors! His writing is quite different and I can see why someone might not enjoy it but for me it’s great!  Unfortunately, my friend didn’t end up liking his books but ohhh wellll

image-58

BOOKS I WOULD RE-READ IN 2019

Scythe (Arc of a Scythe, #1) The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1)

That would definitely be Scythe! This is lowkey just turning into a Scythe appreciation post. Next year, I should limit myself to one book once! I’m also planning on rereading The Cruel Prince once The Wicked King comes out! Also hands up who’s excited for The Wicked King?! I’ve read a couple of reviews and ahhhh I can’t wait! It sounds so sarcastic and murderous and revengey athgyjhuki;kjlh

image-47

FAVOURITE BOOK COVERS

Enchantée Caraval (Caraval, #1) Solitaire Heartstopper: Volume One (Heartstopper, #1)

These covers are too pretty!! I’m kinda on the fence about Solitare but it is pretty cute so I included it! All these books are 4/5 stars for me so that says something i guess. I really have a thing for dark covers though…

image-58

MOST MEMORABLE CHARACTERS

Cardan from the Cruel Prince and Ronan from The Raven Boys! They are both such strong male characters and I love their snark! Also Inej and Nina from The Raven Boys! Is it just me or are SNARKY CHARACTERS THE BEST???

image-58

BOOK I SHOULD HAVE READ BEFORE

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

This book is a classic filled with SO. MUCH. EMOTIONAL TRAUMA. I absolutely loved reading it and it filled me with tears. I’d wanted to read this for a couple of years now  but I never got around to it till this year! i really enjoyed it. despite the heartbreak.

image-57

SHORTEST AND LONGEST BOOK I READ

These Precious Scars by Emily Suvada Winter by Marissa Meyer

The shortest book I read this year was These Precious Scars which was a short story set before This Mortal Coil and was only 47 pages! The longest book I read this year was Winter, the last book in the Cinder series and it was 827 pages which is quite a lot!

image-58

OTP OF THE YEAR

Some of these may be considered spoilers so feel free to skip this section!

ADAM+RONAN from The Raven Boys// THey are SO CUTE omg I literally melt thinking about them ahhhh!!

NICK+CHARLIE from Heartstopper// I LOVE MY Gay OTPs and Nick and Charlie are so cute!!! Also all the pictures are so pretty and I love it!!

JESPER+WYLAN from Six of Crows// THEY ARE TOO CUTE AND HONESTLY MY HEART ACHED FOR DAYS AFTER I FINISHED READING ABOUT THEM.

KAZ+INEJ from Six of Crows// “I will have you without armor, Kaz Brekker. Or I will not have you at all.” Too cute.

NINA+MATHIAS from Six of Crows// What can I say? Bardugo’s an angel when it comes to making ships.

image-56

FAVOURITE NON-ROMANTIC SHIP

I friendSHIP (haha get it? i’m too funny?*) Ronan and Blue together so much!! They are such great friends and honestly, who doesn’t love this scene?

“No homework. I got suspended,” Blue replied.
“Get the fuck out,” Ronan said, but with admiration. “Sargent, you asshole.”
Blue reluctantly allowed him to bump fists with her as Gansey eyed her meaningfully in the rearview mirror.
Adam swivelled the other way in his seat – to the right, instead of to the left, so that he was peering around the far side of the headrest. It made him look as if he were hiding, but Blue knew it was just because it turned his hearing ear instead of his deaf ear towards them. “For what?”
“Emptying another student’s backpack over his car. I don’t really want to talk about it.”
“I do,” Ronan said.
“Well, I don’t. I’m not proud of it.”
Ronan patted her leg. “I’ll be proud for you.”

*I’m sorry, I’m really not cool. I’m like the last person to get this

BEST BOOK I READ BASED SOLELY ON RECOMMENDATION

Carry On (Simon Snow, #1)

Erm… I think that’s Carry On I’ve heard a lot of good things about Rainbow Rowell’s books and so I just decided to pick this book up without even reading the blurb. *cough*silly*cough* I liked it but it was a bit underwhelming and I was getting serious HP vibes. There was a cute plot twist though! I’ve tried more of her books like Eleanor and Park and Attachments and I really enjoyed the sweet stories!

image-57

BEST 2018 DEBUT I READ

Implanted

I really enjoyed reading Implanted! It was a great Sci-Fi Dystopian and I would definitely recommend it if you’re into that kind of stuff! There’s blood carrying and SECRETS who doesn’t love a good secret? and you can check out my review here!

image-57

BOOK THAT MADE ME CRY

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

I’ve recently observed that I cry quite a lot. Which kinda ruins the BADASS WARRIOR impression I’d invented of myself but you know maybe I’m a cariinggg person???? I cried for quite a few of the books I read but one I remember is They Both Die at the End. It made me CRY MY EYES OUT. It was so emotional and even though you know what happens at the end, it’s like you don’t fully accept it till you get to it??? if you haven’t read this, what are you doing with your life!? Go torture yourself with tears and heartbreak.

image-60

MOST ANTICIPATED NON-DEBUT BOOK

The Gilded Wolves (The Gilded Wolves, #1)

I am SOOOOOO excited for The Gilded Wolves!!! It sounds so cool and AMAZING AND I AM ALREADY IN LOVE!! Also, it’s set in Paris?!?! Ooh la la  I’m too embarrassing. You should just hide me behind a pile of books and cake. No one would blame you.

image-60

MOST ANTICIPATED 2019 DEBUT

A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World

I cannot wait for this one! It sounds like such a sweet and touching tale and ahh i’m literally just melting from the BLURB gfeuisrhvuig

image-60

MOST ANTICIPATED SERIES SEQUEL

The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)

I read The Cruel Prince last year and I absolutely loved it!! The Wicked King sounds so amazing and backstabby and murdery that I NEED TO READ IT.

image-60

2019 RELEASE I’VE ALREADY READ

Enchantée

I read Enchantée because I got an arc through Netgalley and I love it! I’ve got a review coming up soon so keep your eyes PEELED. ARCs are great but a downside is having to wait longer that a normal person to read the sequel. Blogger Struggles*sigh*

  1. Oh my gosh, there’s so many things I want to respond to in this post, but then we’ll be here all day! All of your answers are so much fun! & I do friendSHIP Ronan & Blue!!

Also, I’m really glad that 50% of your reads were 5-stars to you! Sounds like you had a great reading year!

  2. I literally love Six of Crows and The Raven Boys so much!! So glad that you enjoyed them as well! The Fault in Our Stars is one of my all time favorite books because it impacted me emotionally so much when I read it years ago. And Illuminae, too. That book smashed me around like ragdolls. My feels were all over the place. My, my, I need to read to read the second book and Carry On as soon as possible. I have a tingly feeling that Imma adore them both so much. I’ve never heard of the book you mentioned in the “most anticipated debut 2019” category but I’m going to check it out on goodreads asap because that title and cover are A++ I hope you have a great new reading year and that you’ll read just as many 5 stars in 2019. c:

  3. So many 5-stars aaaAAAAAAA!! I really want to read Scythe and now you’ve made me even more excited 😍
And agh, blogging struggles! If I’m being honest, sometimes I procrastinate reading sequels cause I don’t want to wait a long time?? snsnjsjshe bad habits :/
I also cried so mUCH while reading TBDATE! I finished it at 12am on a school night and I still regret nothing, even though I technically cried myself to sleep 😅
I’m such a huge fan of This Mortal Coil, I hAvE to get to These Precious Scars! I feel so bad for not having read my ARC of This Cruel Design 😭
    Damn reading slumps 😔

  4. Ooh you got so much reading done over 2018! And so many books that I habe to read- I’m really looking forward to Six of Crows and I remember seeing The Raven Boys in a bookshop a few years ago but I didn’t buy it… looks like I might have to!!

  5. WOW! I loved this post more than I ever expected too!!!!! You are so right about “Blogger Struggles”! I hate reading an amazing ARC and then having to wait even longer to read the sequel!

    Like

  6. I love how passionate you are about the books you read! I read Scythe a year or two ago and really enjoyed it, but I didn’t finish the sequel. I need to finish it when I get the chance! I’m also a person who gives really high ratings. I’ve started to talk about the characters more in-depth as I write my reviews, which actually helps me to analyze the story more and brings the rating down a star or two on occasion. Good luck in 2019!

  7. I love pies but wow, I hate math when there are letters involved. My brain goes straight out the window and into thin air. Actually, let’s just say it’s the wall because that’s a lot more accurate, LOL.

I’ve noticed I’ve become more critical with ratings, so I have a 3.4 average according to Goodreads? I was expecting lower, so I guess I’m a decent rater, haha. Certainly not a negative bookwyrm YET, though. We’ll see next year if I’ve become more critical over the year.

INEJJJJJJ. I adored her and I’m scared of reading Crooked Kingdom because omg I’m not ready for this to end at all. Ever. Also yes, Kaz and Inej. I WILL GO DOWN WITH THE SHIP AS WELL. (And yes, that was a little funny because wow I’m a sucker for bad puns. Badumtss.)

    1. Pies are simply awesome. Fact. I quite like maths to be honest but I totally get that 😂

Yes Soph! That is actually a pretty good rating! Go you! I kinda do want to become more critical this year but not so much that I start disliking a LOT of books cos that’s just sad ☹️

OMG INEJJJ IS SO FEIRCE AND WONDERFUL AND I LOVE HERRRR. Please read it though. It will break your heart. You’ll thank me later 😭😭😭 Apparently there’s a THIRD book coming out though but we’ll have to see! YES YES YES. AND PUNS ARE HILARIOUS. Kaz is such a heartBREKKER hahahah 😂

You should avoid read The Wicked Deep
I am planning to tackle a lot of series this year include the raven cycle, the scythe series, ACOTAR, ToG and the Grisha verse books
I love retreading books, it is the best feeling in the world

  12. Lmao I LOVED this! I didn’t even realize that this post was that long since I had such fun reading it. Also, my TBR is crying right now. I’ve added so much from this post but they just sound so good I don’t even care! I look forward to reading your review of Enchantée as well because I’m so excited for its release. ❤

  13. I could probably add your whole read list of 2018 to my TBR, but I won’t. I will add Six of Crows and Scythe though. They look interesting! You’ve given me a few ideas for my next wrap up post as well, so thank you for that 😀

  14. Hello, how the heck do you rate so much 5 stars? I wish I enjoyed as many books as you to be honest?! Like I have such little five stars and i WANT MORE. But hopefully 2019 will be the year for all the good books, right? And if you want to be more of a critical reader, that’s cool but there’s nothing wrong with enjoying books and rating many books highly!

But yes Six of Crows is like my entire heart I LOVE IT SO MUCH. And I’m re-reading The Raven Cycle right now and I’m reminded about how much i love these characters?! AND THE CRUEL PRINCE WAS GREAT (I mainly just liked Jude and Cardan) but I got a chance to read The Wicked King early and it’s even better AGH. YOU WILL LOVE IT. IT IS PERFECTION.

Ahh and I’m really sorry about Astonishing Colour. I LOVED THAT BOOK SO MUCH so I’m a bit sad to see you didn’t like it but like it’s fine!! We all have different tastes. And I’m pushing up Scythe on my TBR since you are screaming about it so much – I’ve heard so many good things about it! And I forced all my friends to read SOC so like lol.

CROOKED KINGDOM MADE ME CRY FOR THREE HOURS DON’T TALK TO ME ABOUT THAT BOOK.

And I can’t bring myself to read any of Patrick Ness’ books? Like, I’ve tried so many of them but I find them so boring and always DNF. The only one i loved and managed to read it A Monster Calls which made me cry also. I am still broken.

I stan Nina zenik so much oh my gosh!! And omg that’s such a coincidence for fave non-romantic ship you did Blue and Ronan and quoted that bit…BECAUSE For 2017 i CHOSE THE SAME FRIENDSHIP and I put that same passage there too. HJGSFHg. I loved this post so much!!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hello i totally did not just scream when i saw your comment. hah that would be silly. hah. ha.

To be honest, I think i just pick books i’m likely to like rather than any ADVENTUROUS ones (pfft who needs adventure anyway?) I WOULD SHARE MY 5 STARS IF I COULD ILSA. Hopefully you have a better reading year in 2019 and love more books! (plus 2019 is so going to be the year of the Asian)
I think I just want to be more aware of what I’m reading but not completely critical because I do like enjoying books! But someone (i honestly can’t remember who) said that your readers might trust you less if you rate most books highly? I don’t want that to happen but I don’t read less great books either so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

AHHH SIX OF CROWS LITERALLY BLOWS ME AWAY. Like every time I think it’s ordinary again, I read it and BAM. My whole life disappears and i need to sob in a cave for the next 3 years. Ahh The Raven Cycle is so cute!! I LOVE all the friendships and FECDGJ The ending killed me but was a bit disappointing at the same time?? Also I just realised, WHAT A GREAT WAY TO START 2019 OFF!

I ship Jude and Cardan too much! AAGH. I’M SO GLAD YOU LOVED IT!! I LITERALLY CANNOT WAIT!!!!!

Ahh it’s okay, I think I probably need to reread Astonishing Colour because I may have forgotten my feelings while reading it and I may need them back (to torment my heart some more obviously). And YES PLS READ SCYTHE I THINK YOU MAY LOVE IT. It’s all dark and heartbreaking and mysterious and agghhh. SOC is great, I’m a bit disappointed my friend didn’t read it because I literally put the book in her hand and she put it back??? rude. (she’s still awesome tho)

I CRIED TOOO IT WAS SO SAD AND I WAS MISERABLE AND MY PARENTS HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH ME?!?!?

I totally get that! I was think about rereading one of his books but I wasn’t sure how much I would like it so i’ve just left it for now?? And omg I still need to read A Monster Calls!!

She is absolute goals and omg her love for food?! like yes this is me 872563% of the time. AHHH!! They are honestly my favourite characters of all time!! OMG NOOOO gyiwefieakwb, I think i’ll probably remember that passage when i’m 99 and have an old people walker thing. HOPEFULLY I’LL BE IN A LIBRARY TOO.

You had a fabulous reading year– 116 books is A-MAZ-ING. Tell me your secrets 😂😂
I read the Raven boys early in 2018 and I loved it too– the relationships are great and the characters all well developed. I completelt agree about your ships (both romantic and friendship)– they are great.
Six of crows is a great duology everyone should read. A great group of people and Leigh Bardugo is a master at creating relationship– I loved all of them so much!! Jesper/Wylan are the cutest!! And Kaz and Inej lines are to die for… like the one you said 😍
I am excited to read the gilded wolves this year as well and I need to get to the cruel prince this year– I can’t believe I didn’t get to it last year *hides in shame*
I hardly re-read books but I always want to, I am just lucky enough to have a new book waiting so I read that instead 😂
Have a great year and happy reading 💛

Honestly, the Raven boys is probably one of fave books ever- Maggie is an amazing author! I m honestly such a HUGE sucker for ships! As long as they’re good, I’m good! 😍

And ahh Six of Crows!! I think they are all so amazing!! And Jesper/Wylan are ALL the adorable!! Tbh I love all their quotes!!

The gilded wolves just sounds so magical and cool?? YOU NEED TO READ THE CRUEL PRINCE. It was just so heartbreaking and wonderful and ahh let me know what you think if you read it!!
Yep, when I was younger, we used to have these quizzes and got points for reading (i love points and winning not gonna lie) and we could do re-reads of books (probs cos everyone would cheat!) but that mentality has stuck with me! We are super lucky for that!
What were some of your favorites last year? Happy New Year!!

Yeah I would say the Raven boys are on my favourites list too. Maggie’s crafts the story so well 😍 I can’t wait for the dreamer trilogy to be released. Yes same– I love a good ship

Yes six of crows all the way!! Yes me too 😍

Yes I really do, maybe the cruel prince will be the next book I buy so I can get to it. It does sounds great– yes I will let you know what I think 😊
Oh right– yes I like to win as well 😂 Indeed we are.
Umm.. my favourites were probably the Raven boys (of course), Cress out of the lunar chronicles by Marissa Meyer, all the light we cannot see by Anthony Doerr, Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas and An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. Sorry if that was an overload of books there 😂
        Thank you 💛
